How much does an interior color consultation cost?
The first hour of the initial consultation is $125.00 and there is a one hour minimum. The time beyond that is billed at $75.00 per hour. Payment is due at the time of service. Any follow-up consultations after that are billed at $75.00 per hour.
What does an interior color consultation involve?
We meet at your project site. I will bring larger paint chip samples and color fan decks and we will discuss the needs of your specific project. It is helpful if you have magazine pictures of rooms or ideas of colors that appeal to you. If not, that's okay too. I have put together color idea notebooks containing pictures of rooms from magazines so as we discuss options I can show you what the effect might be of a certain color approach. The pictures also help us to narrow down to your color preferences more quickly. Then we will begin to work with colors to see how they read with your existing furnishings and space. Through a collaborative process we can then select specific colors. After our meeting I will order larger paint chip samples (either 8" x 8" or 6" x 9") to be sent directly to you at no additional cost, so you can see how the color reads in both day and evening light. Before you paint, I always recommend that you go out and buy a small quantity of the paint color so you can test it on either your walls or a sample board.
How long does a consultation typically take?
This can vary quite a bit depending upon your specific needs and the number of rooms involved. I have had many projects where we are able to select paint colors for the main floor (typically living room, dining room, entry, kitchen, family room) in 1 to 3 hours, so the consultation fee would be $125.00 to $275.00.
We are remodeling our kitchen and family room and will need new carpet, hardwood flooring, and new countertops. How can you help us coordinate the colors?
For more extensive projects like these it is best to call me to discuss how would be the best way to work together.
We plan on doing the painting ourselves. Do you have "how to" tips and can you help us estimate how much paint we will need?
Paint stores that carry the product you choose will be your best resource for "how to" tips and more in-depth questions. They know their products well and can recommend the proper application materials for the specific product you choose. They can also assist you in estimating the quantity of paint you will need for your project.
Do you have painting contractors that you can recommend?
I can give you several names of painters for you to call, interview, and get estimates from and then you can decide who you would like to hire. Paint stores are another good resource for painter recommendations.
My husband and I both work during the week. Are you available for evening or weekend appointments?
I am available for weekend appointments. Evening appointments are not a great time most of the year to select colors due to the light. In May, June, and July when the days are longer, late afternoon and early evening appointments are possible.
